Itβs authentic
During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, the American sports team must adapt to a live broadcast of Israeli athletes being held hostage by a terrorist group. I love authentic historical dramas. Especially in the times I lived in. Itβs a story I know and have seen in various formats over the years.
So is airtime
As mentioned in the title above, this story is the most interesting to me of all. I saw Spielbergβs Munich Theater years ago and I remember always feeling like it was too long and bloated. Even boring, I hate to say it. And metaphorically to a fault This version of the facts is stricter, this film is shorter and the clock is ticking and lives are at stake.
Cigarettes are being smoked
You are in the control room of ABCβs Wide World of Sports, where the tragic terrorist events in Germany during the 1972 Olympics are unfolding. Rotary phones are used for communication. And there’s a major crisis going on in the Olympic Village. It’s a good history lesson for Gen-Z.
but it’s rated R, so no
I think it’s good for high school history and up. But history is hardly ever pretty. John Magaro and Ben Chaplin shine the most with their stellar performances. It’s worth going to the movies.
They could stand to learn a little history
It wouldn’t be a terrible idea to bring your high school kid to the theater. Then they’ll come out with you and say, Did that really happen?
